What started years ago with a former CCA administrator has today become a dearly-loved and much-anticipated annual event that gives our students and their grandparents a chance to make precious memories.

This year, Goodies with Grands took place on Monday, September 18 for students in Grades 6-12 and their grandparents. And for those who didn't have a grandparent available to join them, parents, teachers, aunts, uncles, and other loved ones stepped in to take on that role.

Each year, this event is hosted by our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). Lindsay Freeman, PTO President, said, “CCA has always valued the family unit and wants to extend a hand—not only to the parents—but to the grandparents as well. What better way to do that than a special day just for them?”

Throughout the day, each grade staggered in, beginning with the youngest and ending with the oldest, to enjoy snacks and games with grandparents. In addition, the PTO gifted door prizes to those who had traveled the farthest distance and those who had the most total grandchildren.

This year was extra special as a new element was added to the day's events: grandparents were asked to donate new books to CCA's library. As they registered, the books were collected and later presented to Librarian Crystal Phillips. Lindsay said, “Now, our children can enjoy these memories with their grandparents for years to come.”

Grandparents can look forward to next year's "Goodies with Grands," which has become a staple on the CCA calendar. Kat Henry, PTO Vice President, said, “We know the important role grandparents play in our children’s lives and we want to continue giving them a big thank-you by creating a fun environment for them to enjoy together.”
